The tradition of excellence in athletics is an important part of life at St. Vincent’s Academy. SVA teams consistently rank among the best in state competition. Our students can choose to participate in more than ten different sports.


St. Vincent’s basketball program is one of the longest running programs in the history of the Academy. Please note, the schedule has been updated as of 11/2/21. The season begins with tryouts in mid October for the Varsity and JV teams. Competition begins in late October and ends with play-offs in March.

    Cross Country

    St. Vincent’s cross country program has won 9 Region Championships and finished 16th in the State this past season. Cross county is a very popular sport and we usually compete at the JV and varsity levels. The season starts in August and competes thru November.

    Golf – 2018 GHSA AA State Champions

    The golf program at St. Vincent’s Academy was started in the spring of 2012. The first team consisted of 7 players. This inaugural team went on to win the City Championship and posted a 4th place finish in Region 2-AA golf tournament. The season begins in mid-February and continues until the end of May.

    The rifle team practices 4 days a week after school to prepare for the GHSA Area 3 rifle matches. The season starts in January and continues through April. Matches consist of up to 7 shooters per team for Area Matches (with play-off teams consisting of 4 members) shooting in three positions each for a possible total of 300 points per shooter. The top 4 scores for each team are recorded. The team is open to all students eligible under GHSA guidelines, and consists of 8-14 members.

    Sailing Schedule 2019-2020


    St. Vincent’s competes in GHSA fast pitch softball. Tryouts for the varsity and JV team are held in May and are open to all students enrolled for Grades 9-12. Participation in a summer league is strongly encouraged to help build skills for the high school level of competition.

    The Sailing Team is a member of (SAISA) South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association. We sail in our region which is the Lower Area of the Coastal Region. The regattas are held at various sites thought out the region, from Jacksonville, Fla. to Charlestown, SC. The lower region is made up of 13 competing high schools, four of which are from Savannah. All students are invited to join the team. Sailing instruction is given to non sailors, while all levels compete in regattas.

    Soccer – 2017,2018,2019 GHSA AA STATE CHAMPIONS

    The St. Vincent’s soccer program won it’s 8th consecutive region championship and played through the Elite 8 GHSA A Private State Competition this season. Tryouts are held in the last week of January for both JV and Varsity teams and the season will continue into May.

    The St. Vincent’s swim team has consistently qualified individual and relay teams for the state competition over the past 20 years. Practices and home meets are held at the Chatham County Aquatics Center. The season begins in October culminating in February with the GHSA all classification swim meet held in Atlanta, Georgia.

    The Saint Vincent’s Tennis Team is composed of athletes who are interested in competing in tennis at a high level. The team competed in the A Private Region and advanced to the state playoffs. The season begins in January and continues until May.

    Track and Field

    The St. Vincent’s Track Team starts training in January at Forsyth Park and continues at Benedictine and Savannah State University until the State Track meet in May. The team competes in field events, short and long distance runs and relays. The St. Vincent’s Academy Track team consistently places athletes in the state competition year after year.

    The sport of volleyball was introduced to St. Vincent’s Academy in 1990. Throughout the history of the program we have continued to progress and develop into one of the state’s top competitive programs with the dedication of the athletes and coaches here at St. Vincent’s. Since the induction of the sport, St. Vincent’s has remained successful with multiple Region Championships and an AAAAA State Championship in 2003, a AA State Championship in 2016 and a Runner Up appearance in 2017. In the 2020 season the Saints made an Elite 8 appearance at State in the A Private GHSA Division and made it to the Sweet 16 in 2021.     One Act Play

    St. Vincent’s has been competitive in the Region 3-A Private One-Act Play Competition, placing second in the Region in 2021.  SVA actresses have been recognized at both the Region and State level.  Students have the opportunity to learn about performance art from both an acting and a technical standpoint, and need not have any stage experience.  Auditions and rehearsals normally begin the second week of the school year, and run through the Region/State competitions at the end of October.
